  Vitamin D, also referred to as calciferol, is a fat-soluble hormone and nutrient produced by the body. Few foods contain Vitamin D and the body heavily relies on the ultraviolet (UV) rays from the sun for its synthesis. Vitamin D has several cellular functions but is imperative for bone health. Calcium, the primary component of bone, cannot be absorbed without the presence of this crucial vitamin.  Vitamin D deficiency can also cause low energy, poor nutrition, depression, and/or excess body fat.  Getting the vitamin D3 shot ensures the nutrients get to work faster; promoting strong bones, an elevated immune response to symptoms of colds, the flu, or other illnesses, as well as an improved mood.
